Uitenhage SAPS warn about 'false' social media messages

Uitenhage cluster police have warned the public about spreading false rumours about retaliation attacks in Kwanobuhle and surroundings.

Police spokesperson, Gerda Swart, says they're urging the public to remain calm and report for work, while learners should go to school.

However, she said communities should remain vigilant and report any suspicions to the police.

There is a high police presence in the Uitenhage cluster due to the rumours and also because of the Cosatu strike.

Although police did not provide any further details, Algoa FM News understands that warning relates to the possible hijacking and torching of cars.

This is an apparent gang ritual following the deaths of gangsters.

Two such murders were reported last week.
