Uitenhage SAPS make drug bust

Uitenhage police have arrested five suspects and seized dagga with an estimated street value of R370 000.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkholi, said members of Kwanobuhle's Crime Prevention Unit made the bust Thursday morning.

He said the drugs were found in a shack in the back of a house in Ntili Street where the arrests were also made.

Uitenhage cluster commander Brigadier Philip Salukazana also thanked members of the community who provided information on the drug den.

Meanwhile, three people were arrested on a charge of arson after several houses were torched in unit 29 in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu, said a fourth suspect was arrested on a charge of malicious damage to property and intimidation.

This follows incidents in Unit 29 on Wednesday where people illegally occupying houses were being evicted.

Police believe that some of those being evicted had been behind the arson attacks.

The arrested suspects are due to appear in court soon.
