Three people have been arrested for arson after several houses were torched in unit 29 in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu, says a fourth suspect was arrested on a charge of malicious damage to property and intimidation.
This follows an incident in the area on Wednesday and Thursday where people who were occupying houses illegally were evicted in terms of a court order.
Gwavu says some of the evicted residents allegedly damaged the houses they had to vacate.
He says one of the houses was also torched.
Gwavu says three other houses were also set alight in different sections of the area but he says they cannot link it yet to the evictions.
Members of the Public Order Police Unit are monitoring the situation which is calm but tense.
