The South African Police Service in Uitenhage are investigating an inquest after the body of a newborn baby boy was discovered by a group of children last week.
Police says the child was discovered inside a 20litre drum whilst playing in the channel next to Gamble Street.
A post mortem must still be conducted to investigate the cause of death.
The circumstances surrounding the discovery and how the body landed up there is not clear and it is under investigation.
The discovery was made on Thursday the 12th of May just after 12 pm.
