The Eastern Cape anti-corruption unit has arrested three police officers in Sterkspruit for alleged extortion.
Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says the incident allegedly took place on the 21st of April while the officers were enforcing and implementing the
disaster management act regulations.
They stand accused of soliciting a sum of R1 500 from the suspect's employer in exchange for his release.
The three members aged between 39 and 43 appeared in the Sterkspruit Magistrate Court on Monday where they were formally charged with corruption.
They were granted bail and will be back in the same court for trial on the 30th of July.
