Three more police stations in EC closed due to Covid19

Two trade unions in the SA Police Service have raised concerns at the number of members testing positive for Covid19, leading to the closure of police stations across the country.

In the Eastern Cape, at least six police stations have been closed in the last week or so, three in Nelson Mandela Bay as well as Willowvale, King Williams Town and Bhisho Police Stations are also closed.

The SA Police Union, says it raised its concerns with police management about how members were being deployed when lockdown regulations were announced.

The stations will be decontaminated and open as soon as possible.

In Bhisho, the community Service Centre will now be operating from the Old Police Station Building which is situated below Engen Garage.

In Kinkelbos the public can go the Victim Support Centre building which is on the same premises whilst residents in Willowvale will have to go to the Town Hall in Main Street.

Two police officers have already succumbed to the virus, one was from Middelburg in the Eastern Cape.

As of Sunday, 370 SAPS members had tested positive for COVID19 with the majority of cases reported in the Western Cape.
