The Eastern Cape Health Department has confirmed that four of its head office staff have tested positive for Covid 19.
The department head, Dr Thobile Mbengashe says the four staff members all work at the Provincial Call centre offices in East London.
Dr Mbengashe says in a report that the Department’s Covid 19 tracers will now trace all their contacts.
This includes everyone that is stationed at the call centre offices.
He added that the building will remain temporarily closed for decontamination and deep cleaning.
Meanwhile, Eastern Cape Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba says the twenty Cuban doctors that they welcomed in East London on Sunday will undergo orientation for a week before moving into the field.
The doctors have been allocated specifically to the Eastern Cape and are part of a 200-strong team that has been deployed from Cuba to assist in fighting the Covid 19 pandemic.
MEC Gomba said the doctors’ skills will be matched with the Eastern Cape health department’s requirements before they are deployed to various districts of the province.
