Eastern Cape Police said that the King Williams Town police station has been closed, the third in the Province to close due to a member testing positive for Covid19.
In a statement on Sunday provincial police management said that the Community Service Centre will be operating from a hall on the premises.
“The old building will be undergoing decontamination and the community will be informed when the station will be operational again,” the statement said.
The Police said it was waiting on Buffalo City Municipality to make a community hall available by Monday.
This is the third Eastern Cape police station to close due to confirmed cases of Covid19 among SAPS members.
The New Brighton and Motherwell police stations in Nelson Mandela Bay were recently closed after members tested positive.
In a statement this week, Police Commissioner General Khehla Sitole paid tribute to two police members who succumbed to the disease, one in the Eastern Cape in Middelburg and the other in Kwazulu Natal.
He also said that 370 SAPS members had tested positive, with the majority of cases in the Western Cape.
