Residents of Kamesh in Uitenhage have set fire to the Post Office in Gambleville Post Office in Rosedale, causing extensive damage.
Police said residents took to the streets early on Thursday night, burning tyres in Kamesh Road and 20th Avenue.
Reinforcements had to be called in from neighbouring stations as well as Port Elizabeth.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Gerda Swart, says the protesters forced open the door to the Post Office and threw a burning tyre inside.
She says the situation is calm but tense early on Friday morning.
