Police in Uitenhage are urgently seeking the driver of a white Ford Bantam bakkie following a collision over the weekend which left a pedestrian dead.
Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, said the accident happened at around 21.30 on Saturday night in Cuyler Manor Road.
She said according to police information the driver of another turned around and stopped behind the Ford Bantam bakkie after he noticed a male lying next road.
“It was later established that the pedestrian had passed away on the scene, before medical assistance arrived,” Swart said.
She said the bakkie driver and his passenger, both males believed to be in their fifties, then drove away and did not return to the accident scene.
“The 57-year-old deceased was identified by his relatives as Balasele Eric Zono. Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide,” Swart said.
She said police were also urging the driver and the passenger of the white Ford Bantam or anyone who may know their whereabouts to contact the investigating officer Detective Warrant Officer Deon Roos on 079 896 8148 or SAPS Uitenhage on 041 996 3438.
