Police are investigating a case of malicious damage to property after a water truck was torched in Uitenhage on Monday.
Spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkholi says the truck driver was travelling on the R334 known as the Rocklands Road at about 8.30 am when he noticed the road was blocked with burning tyres.
He says the driver stopped so that he could make a U-turn but while he was manoeuvering his turn a group of about 10 people, armed with dangerous weapons, forced him and his assistant out of the truck.
Sergeant Nkohli says the group then torched the truck and left.
The driver and his assistant had to hitchhike back to their head office in Uitenhage.
At this stage, a motive for the attack is unknown and the suspects who were said to be wearing face masks are also unknown.
