Uitenhage police are continuing the search for an awaiting trial prisoner who escaped from the holding cells at the Kwanobuhle Magistrate's court on Monday.
Police spokesperson, lieutenant-colonel Sibongile Soci, says this is the second time that 29 year old Lungisile Mukuma has escaped from custody.
Its alleged that he was inadvertently released from custody when a court orderly called the name of a prisoner who had been granted bail and Mukuma stepped forward.
He was arrested on a charge of carjacking while there are also five other cases pending against him.
Colonel Soci says a high safety alert has been issued to all Uitenhage and Port Elizabeth police stations to be on the look out for him.
