Uitenhage police have issued a warning to motorists to be alert when approaching intersections and junctions.
The warning came after a reported incident of hijacking and rape in Uitenhage on Friday.
Police said that “around 14:45, a man and a woman in a blue VW Polo Playa stopped at a junction on R-334 en route to Uitenhage when five men with knives accosted them.”
“The suspects allegedly forced a driver into a boot and drove into the nearby bushes where a woman was repeatedly raped and a man stabbed several times in the upper body,” said police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli.
“Before the suspects fled with a vehicle, the victims were tied and left in the bushes. After a while the victims managed to untie themselves and walked to the road for help,” he said.
Nkohli said they’re investigating a case of hijacking and rape.
