Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, said that the arrest was made in Rosedale on Wednesday night.

She said police confiscated 6 693 Stilpane tablets as well as R6 000 in cash.

Swarth said the man is due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court on Friday.

"Efforts to fight against the proliferation of illegal firearms and the continuous eradication and clamping down on the illegal selling of schedule five medicines in the Uitenhage Cluster is attributed to police visibility and good informer networks," Swart said

Swart said a 9mm pistol and ammunition was seized.

The suspects, aged between 18 - 20 years, will appear in court on Friday on charges of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

"The deputy Cluster Commander of Uitenhage and overall commander of the Operational Command Centre, Brigadier Ronald Koll has applauded the members for their swift action and the arrest of the suspects. Brigadier Koll also commended the community for working with the SAPS by providing valuable information that led to the arrest and recovery of the illegal firearm and medicine," Swart concluded.
