Uitenhage man dies in shack fire

 A Uitenhage man has died in a fire that destroyed his informal home in Mandela Village on Wednesday night.

Police spokesperson, warrant officer Gerda Swart, identified the victim as 62-year-old, Pilile Nyiki.

She says neighbours tried to assist when his home caught fire but were too late.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.

Swart says Kamesh police have opened an inquest docket.
