A robber was killed and a policeman injured in a dramatic shoot-out in the Mtatha city centre on Wednesday.
Police lieutenant-colonel Mzukisi Fatyela says 4 gunmen were confronted by police as they fled a fast-food outlet they had robbed moments earlier in Owen Street.
One of the robbers was shot and killed by police and another was injured.
Fatyela says a policeman was wounded in the shoot-out but that his injuries are not life-threatening.
The other two robbers managed to escape.
Fatyela says R15 000 in cash that had been stolen from the fast-food outlet was recovered.
