A 28-year-old man from Uitenhage died in hospital after being attacked by a group of people in Kwanobuhle.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, said that Mxolisi Makasi was attacked late on Tuesday night.
"It is alleged that a group of people with various weapons attacked Makasi in Gawulayo Street," he said.
The motive for the attack is not known.
Acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll, has condemned what he said was a "senseless murder".
Anyone who may have information pertinent to the case should contact Uitenhage police.
