NMU student in court for reckless and negligent driving

An NMU student accused of driving recklessly along the Port Elizabeth Beachfront made a brief appearance in court on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old Melusi Magwenyane was arrested on Tuesday and released on warning.

He was ordered to appear in court on Wednesday where he indicated that he would be asking Legal Aid for assistance.

A viral video of the incident shows the driver, allegedly Magwenyane, breaking numerous laws of the road, wheel spinning, driving up the wrong side of the road and even losing control of the vehicle at one point.

Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the vehicle was a rental and was rented by Magwenyane's friend.

The matter was postponed to the 23rd of April for further investigation.

A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened by the Democratic Alliance on Monday afternoon.
