Uitenhage man arrested for cultivating dagga plants


 A 22-year-old Uitenhage man was arrested at a residence in North Street, Uitenhage on Wednesday morning for cultivating and dealing in dagga plants.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Oficer Gerda Swart says members of the Operational Sector Group, acting on information received, confiscated 47 containers with plants, dried dagga, cash and equipment to cultivate the plants

She says the value of the dagga and equipment is estimated at around R10 000.

The suspect is due in the Uitenhage Magistrates’ Court soon.

In the past three weeks police in Butterworth, East London, Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage, have arrested dagga growers as well as dealers in different operations.

Police said the estimated street value of these confiscated drugs amounts to about R5-million.
