A man who allegedly fled the scene of a fatal car accident along Old Cape Road in Uitenhage on Sunday has been arrested.
Spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says the 27-year-old Fernando Douglas was arrested at his home in Uitenhage on Monday evening after information was received.
It is alleged that Douglas drove into a broken down Opel Monza that was being pushed by two people whilst a driver was still inside.
The 38-year-old Maxwell Peyi died at the scene.
Captain Swart says Douglas allegedly got out of his car and told the men that he needed to get a cellphone but he never returned to the scene.
Eyewitness initially told police that the suspect was driving a blue Sedan, but Swart says the car turned out to be a blue Nissan Micra which was confiscated by SAPS.
Douglas made a brief appearance in the Uitenhage Magistrates Court on a charge of culpable homicide and was released on bail of R800.
Swart says more charges could be added.
The case was postponed to the 29th of September.
