A couple from Kwanobuhle, Uitenhage was arrested in connection with the death of their six week old child.
Police initially opened a case of child neglect under the Child Care Act but the charge was changed to culpable homicide after the death was reported.
The six week-old girl died in the Dora Nginza Hospital on the 14th of March.
Uitenhage police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, said great teamwork from the investigating officers, Warrant Officer Francois Nell and Sergeant Annelize Joubert led to the arrest of the 42-year-old woman and her 49-year-year-old partner last week.
They appeared in court on Friday for a bail hearing but were denied bail.
Sergeant Nkohli said the couple was remanded in custody and will be back in court on the 27th of May.
