Uitenhage car dealer faces more charges

Additional charges have been brought against Uitenhage car dealer, Simon van Vuuren.

He appeared in court on Wednesday where it emerged that the number of motor vehicle theft cases against him has now grown to 53.

Initially, 65-year-old Van vuuren was arrested on 31 charges, which later increased to 41, as detectives traced more stolen cars sold through his dealership, Monte Carlo Motors.

Police spokesperson, warrant officer Gerda Swart, says the additional charges of vehicle theft relate to cars allegedly stolen in the Western Cape.

She says Van Vuuren's case has been postponed to the 10th May and his bail of R20 000 was extended.

"Due to the fact that the thefts occurred mostly in the Western Cape, prosecution are looking into the possibility of centralizing the relevant cases," Swart said.
