Uitenhage police say a seven-year-old boy was shot in KwaNobuhle - allegedly by his 12-year-old friend over the long weekend.
Spokesperson, Warrant Officer Gerda Swart says the 12-year-old boy went into his father's friend's bedroom where he found the firearm.
She says he allegedly took the firearm and a shot went off. The bullet hit the seven-year-old in the chest.
Swart says the injured boy was rushed to hospital.
She says the 12-year-old boy who is in his parents care, and is expected to appear in the KwaNobuhle Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of attempted murder.
Swart says police are investigating another charge related to the Firearms Control Act.
