A 72-year-old man was killed by a shark while swimming in Port St Johns on Saturday.
The National Sea Rescue Institute says the Austrian tourist was swimming at Second Beach when he was attacked by the shark.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says the man was part of a tour group that included his wife.
He says the man was dead when NSRI rescuers arrived.
Lambinon says the species of shark involved in the attack is not known at this stage.
Police have opened an inquest docket and the Department of International Relations Department has been informed.
