A principal from the Lututu Junior Secondary School in Ugie, in the Joe Gqabi District, has been suspended after coercing a learner to retrieve his phone from a pit toilet at the school.
A video of the inhumane incident went viral on social media which led to the confession.
Department spokesperson Vuyiseka Mboxela, says the principal was inside the toilet when his phone fell inside, he then coerced an 11-year-old child to retrieve it.
She stressed that the MEC for Education, Fundile Gade is concerned about this incident and has since sent a team to the school to give psychological support to the learner and other pupils.
MEC Gade will visit the school on Thursday to monitor the situation and offer further support.
