Two men in their 20's drowned at Kariega Beach in Kenton-On-Sea while swimming in the sea on Saturday.
The National Sea Rescue Institute in Port Alfred responded to the scene and upon arrival, the two men were located in shallow surf.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says the two, one from the Eastern Cape and one from Kwa-Zulu Natal, were recovered onto the beach.
He says it appears that while a group of young adults were swimming at Kariega River Mouth, the two men got into difficulty after being caught in rip currents and were swept out to sea.
Lambinon says despite extensive CPR efforts, paramedics declared both men deceased.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
