Two suspected abalone poachers are expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Monday, following their arrest in Marine Drive in Gqeberha on Friday.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says members from the K9 unit followed up on information received from a private anti-poaching unit of a suspicious vehicle with possible abalone.

She says the vehicle was spotted and blocked off and one of the suspects tried to dispose of a bag.

The two, aged 36 and 40, were arrested at the scene.

A total of 69 units of abalone were found in the bag.

Colonel Naidu says their Bantam bakkie and wet suits were also confiscated.
