Joint efforts between SAPS Kwazakele Vispol Task Team Members and the Motherwell Cluster Serious and Violent Crime Investigation Unit has resulted in the arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in the murder and robbery of a prominent Zwide resident.
Port Elizabeth police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says they were also wanted for the attempted murder and vehicle hijacking of two other people on the 24th of December.
62-year-old Peter Sample was fatally wounded shortly after 5pm on Christmas Eve while working in his garage at his house in Higa Street in Zwide.
Colonel Naidu says three unknown men came to the house alleging that he bought stolen speakers.
The men left and later returned and shot Sample twice in the head.
They left with his TV set. and as they exited the house, a red Bantam bakkie was passing by.
The suspects shot at the vehicle, injuring the driver in his left hand and his passenger who is his wife in her right foot.
The victims got out of the bakkie and the suspects then fled in the vehicle.
Colonel Naidu says the police members were following up information on the possible whereabouts of the suspects on Monday when they saw them walking in Saba Street in Kwazakele.
A foot chase ensued and both suspects aged 26 and 28 were arrested.
They are expected to appear in court soon on charges of murder, house robbery, attempted murder and carjacking.
