Kariega police have opened an inquest docket following the death of two relatives after their home burned down in Kwanobuhle on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says it is alleged that 93-year-old Thobile Mpondo and his 36-year-old cousin, Nkululeko Kwenaite died in the blaze after efforts by neighbours to extinguish the flames in the house in Lupuwana Street proved futile.
She says the Fire Department attended to the scene and extinguished the fire.
The cause of the fire is not known and is under investigation.
