Eastern Cape police have arrested a 59-year-old school principal in Ntabankulu for the alleged rape of a learner.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says the arrest follows after an outcry by school children, the community, and other stakeholders that a 21-year-old learner was allegedly raped by an elder person at the school.
He says according to the report, it happened on different occasions but was not immediately reported to the police until learners protested against the school's authorities.
Kinana says the circumstances surrounding the incidents are currently under investigation by the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences unit.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Ntabankulu Magistrate's Court on Monday.
