Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor, Mongameli Bobani, has opened two Metro police precincts in Motherwell and Humewood.
Speaking at the opening in Unit 2 in Motherwell on Wednesday, Bobani said the introduction of the precincts comes at the right time when crime usually increases over the Festive season.
Metro police chief, Yolanda Faro, said: "the officers will work on the ground hand in glove with South African Police Service".
The two precincts are situated at the Thusong Centre in Unit 2 in Motherwell and at Brooks Pavillion in Humewood and would be "sufficiently staffed" and would be operational immediately.
"They will no longer have to travel long distances and that means that there will be less time for criminals to escape as the Metro Police and SAPS will be able to deploy swiftly," Faro said.
The Municipality has already opened two Metro police offices in Bethelsdorp and Kwanobuhle.
