An Eastern Cape man will spend the next 18 years behind bars for killing his young girlfriend two years ago.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, said that 29-year-old Mthandazo Bambiso was sentenced in the Tsomo Regional Court on Wednesday.
He said that he had initially reported to police in August 2016, that 21-year-old Zanele Mayila had been murdered at their place in Ngqamakhwe.
However, he said police became suspicious about his story and upon further investigation, he confessed.
Manatha said the young woman was originally from Cofinvaba.
Butterworth Cluster Commander Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu welcomed the jail sentence.
