Transnet National Ports Authority says it has created two new container berths at the Port of Nqura, doubling its container ship capacity to four.
The construction of the two additional container berths was in line with Transnet's Market Demand Strategy.
The 16 metre berths each have a 300 metre long quayside which enables the Nqura Container Terminal to handle four vessls and up to 11 000 containers at any one time.
Transnet says a total of seven berths have now been completed at the Port of Nqura, comprising four container and two manganese berths as well as one general cargo berth
