Two municipal workers from Graaff Reinet have died after drowning in a sewerage pipe they were working on.
Police Spokesperson Warrant Officer Juan Du Preez says three men were working on the pipe on Thursday when one of them fell in.
He says his two colleauges jumped in to try and save him but only one managed to make it out alive.
The man was rushed to the hospital where he is still being treated.
Du Preez says it was quite a difficult task to retrieve the bodies but that police managed to get both out of the drain.
He says the names and ages of the deceased are not yet known.
