Two more arrested- in prison- for triple murder on Easter Friday

SAPS

The Gang Investigation Unit in Gqeberha arrested two more suspects for the triple murder at Perridgevale on Easter Friday.

Four people are now in custody for the shooting incident that took place in front of a ticket office for a bus company in Storey Street.

The 21-year-old Davedene Van Zyl and 36-year-old Johannes Bruintjies were allegedly targeted in a hit that also took the life of an innocent bystander, 28-year-old Fortune Nyathi.

The deceased are believed to have all bought tickets destined for Johannesburg before the incident took place after they left the Acres Spar, where they bought refreshments for the trip.

The latest suspects were arrested at St Albans prison on Wednesday where they are both awaiting trial for separate murder cases allegedly committed in Bethelsdorp in July 2021 and May 2020 respectively.

Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the 28-year-old Justin Van Rensburg and the 25-year-old Austin Augustus appeared in court and will join their co-accused at their next court appearance on the 10th of September.

The 36-year-old Neaven du Preez, and 29-year-old Jody Cloete were the first of five suspects to be arrested following a high-speed chase with police.

Both Du Preez and Cloete have been previously convicted on charges related to firearms, while Du Preez was out on parole after being convicted of murder.

All four suspects are now facing three murder charges, two attempted murder charges for firing at police, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of a stolen vehicle and reckless and negligent driving.
