Two men who got into difficulty in the surf at Eastern Beach in East London are still missing.
The National Sea Rescue Institute said that their duty crew was activated at 15h30 on Thursday to reports of a drowning in progress.
Station commander, Geoff McGregor said their sea rescue craft and their sea rescue vehicle were dispatched to the scene while the police K-9 Search and Rescue unit, Alderson's ambulance service and Buffalo City Municipality Fire and Rescue Services also responded.
He said when their members arrived on the scene a search commenced for two, one aged 25 and the other whose age is unknown.
“Despite an extensive sea and shoreline search no sign of the men has been found”.
McGregor said police have opened an investigation.
