Two men have been shot dead in broad daylight in one of Gqeberha's busiest streets in Walmer.
Police have now launched a manhunt for four suspects believed to have been involved in Wednesday's double murder on the side of Heugh Road between 5th and 6th avenue - right next to Pick 'n Pay.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says 31-year-old Banele Matiwane was reportedly walking across a grass verge near the shopping centre when a suspect walked towards him and started shooting.
She says he retreated and ran to a nearby tree where he collapsed.
It is further alleged that another three men appeared on the scene and started shooting, hitting an innocent bystander who was sitting on a bench.
Colonel Naidu says the bystander, identified as Luyanda Veto, was treated on the scene but succumbed to his injuries.
Veto's age is not known.
She says the unknown suspects fled on foot and the motive for the murders is not yet clear.
