The OR Tambo District Municipality says its disaster teams are on the ground in various parts of the district to assist communities affected by floods.
The province experienced heavy downpours on Tuesday evening but no injuries or fatalities have yet been reported.
Spokesperson, Zimkhitha Macingwana says Port St John's is the worst affected area as well some parts of Nyandeni, King Sabata Dalindyebo and the Ingquza Local Municipalities.
She has cautioned communities against crossing flooded rivers and streams.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Cape Transport Department says none of these heavy downpours has been strong enough to warrant road closures.
Department's spokesperson, Unathi Bhinqose says they're monitoring the situation as showers continue sweeping some parts of the province.
