Police in Graaff-Reinet have opened an inquest docket following the deaths of two men who allegedly consumed poisoned cupcakes.
Spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli says it is alleged that three men consumed the same cupcakes on Tuesday and were rushed to hospital after complaining about stomach pain.
Two men died soon after being committed, while a third was rushed to a hospital in Gqeberha.
W/O Nkohli says the circumstances surrounding the incident are forming part of the investigation.
A source told Algoa FM News that the cupcakes were suspected to be laced with pesticides.
This will form part of the police investigation.
The names and ages of the victims have not yet been released.
