The Kouga Abalone Task team, attached to the Jeffreys Bay police, arrested nine suspects this week for allegedly dealing in abalone.
Police spokesperson Captain Marius McCarthy says the suspects, aged between 17 and 44, were arrested on Tuesday in Paradise Beach.
He says the suspects were seen on the beach busy assembling an abalone pick-up point, and the Task Team tactically approached them, after which a high-speed chase ensued.
Police confiscated a thousand units of abalone worth R240 000, diving equipment and two vehicles.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrates Court soon.
