Gqeberha police have shot and killed one suspect and arrested another after they allegedly robbed and hijacked patients and staff at a KwaZakhele clinic.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said three suspects allegedly committed the crimes on Wednesday after entering a local clinic and demanded cellphones, car keys and cars.
After fleeing the scene, the robbers hijacked more vehicles including a VW Tiguan and a Toyota Hilux Bakkie
Lt Col Mawisa said police were notified and were immediately on the lookout for the suspects.
The stolen vehicles were spotted in the same area by members of the flying squad, she said.
After trying to stop the vehicles, one suspect ran into the yard at Dora Nginza Hospital, one fled the scene on foot and the other was fatally wounded.
She also said all the vehicles and belongings were recovered and members also confiscated a black and silver taurus 9mm short pistol, cellphones belonging to the victims, and the keys of the hijacked VW Tiguan.
One suspect, aged 40, will soon appear at the New Brighton Magistrates Court on charges of business robbery, hijacking, pointing of a firearm, and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
