Eastern Cape police have arrested two men, aged 34 and 36, after they were found in possession of 16 cellphone tower batteries on the N2 near Tsolo at the weekend.
Spokesperson, Captain Dineo Koena says police received information about the suspects transporting the batteries from Mthatha to Johannesburg, and during a stop-and-search operation on Friday evening, the batteries, estimated to be worth about R400,000, were found in a bus.
She says the suspects will be profiled to determine whether they could be linked to other cases.
Koena says during their arrest, they attempted to bribe police officers "with thousands of rand".
They will appear in the Tsolo Magistrates' Court on Monday on charges of possession of suspected stolen property and bribery.
