Two people were killed following a head-on collision on Nelson Mandela Drive in Mthatha on Sunday night.
Provincial Traffic spokesperson Unathi Binqose says it is alleged that the driver of a VW Polo made a U-turn in front of an Audi A5.
He says the Polo was sideswiped and the driver and his passenger died instantly, their names have not yet been released.
The male driver of the Audi sustained only slight injuries and was treated on the scene for shock.
Binqose says a case of reckless and negligent driving, as well as culpable homicide, is under investigation.
He says the possibility that alcohol was a contributing factor to the accident cannot be ruled out.
Earlier on Sunday morning, six people were killed, when their vehicle crashed into a boundary wall of a house in Mthatha.
Binqose says the BMW sedan burst into flames, and all six occupants burnt beyond recognition.
He says the vehicle was entering Mthatha from Engcobo's side when the accident happened.
