Two people were killed and one critically injured when two vehicles collided head-on just 10 km before the King Phalo Airport (East London) on the R72.
A spokesperson for Provincial Traffic Unathi Binqose says the accident happened on Sunday afternoon.
He says a white Opel Astra with a male driver was travelling from the Port Alfred side when he collided head-on with two occupants driving in a bakkie.
Bingqose says the driver of the Astra and the female passenger in the bakkie died on the scene whilst the male driver was taken to Frere hospital with critical injuries.
A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
The names of the deceased are not known.
