Two people have died, and three others sustained injuries when the car they were travelling in crashed on the N2 near the Van Stadens Bridge on the outskirts of Gqeberha.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department said the injured passengers were rushed to various hospitals in the area following Saturday morning's accident.
Spokesperson, Unati Binqose, said it is alleged that the driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned.
He said the Eastern Cape Transport MEC Xolile Nqatha has urged motorists to reduce speed and drive cautiously.
The MEC also conveyed his sincere condolences to the grieving families and wished the injured passengers a swift recovery.
