The National Sea Rescue Institute in Mossel Bay has been activated following reports of a body floating in the sea near Fransmanshoek.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says a local boater who came across the body on Friday, was requested to stay on the scene.
He says on arrival at the scene, approximately 2.8 nautical miles offshore, NSRI crew secured the body and was taken to their Mossel Bay station 15 rescue base.
Lambinon says the body of the adult man, confirmed to be the skipper of a local fishing vessel, was taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
