Uitenhage police are searching for several suspects after two houses were robbed within hours of each other.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, said that the one incident occurred at around 1 am on Tuesday morning in Mimosa Drive.
“It is alleged that three men armed with firearms forced open a kitchen door of a house in Mimosa Drive, Uitenhage. The occupants, who were woken by sound of an opening door, were held at gunpoint by one of the suspects,” he said.
“The other two men ransacked the house and stole a television set, Xbox, five cell phones and a hard drive. The suspects then locked the victims inside a bedroom before fleeing the scene,” Nkohli said.
He said in a separate incident at around 4 am also on Tuesday morning, five men armed with firearms forced open a door of a house in Katjiepiering Street in Uitenhage.
Sergeant Nkohli said the homeowner was held at gunpoint and forced to hand over cash from her wallet.
“The suspects also stole a television set, a laptop and a cell phone. No people were injured in both incidents,” Nkohli said.
He said police opened house robbery cases for investigation and are also urging anyone with information that could assist with their investigation in any of the two incidents to contact the nearest police station or to share information via Crime Stop 08600 10111.
