Police at Addo are warning stokvels members to take extra precautions when conducting their financial transactions.
The warning comes after three men robbed members of a stokvel of a large sum of money in Addo on Sunday afternoon.
Police Sergeant Majola Nkohli says three men stormed into a house in Kolosa Street in the Nomathansanqa area of Addo and held up 25 stokvel members at gunpoint.
The suspects then stole the victims cell phones and a large sum of money and then locked the house doors before fleeing the scene.
The 25 members, all women, managed to open a kitchen door and then contacted the police.
Uitenhage Acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll said the police would like to warn members of stokvels or savings clubs to revisit their strategies and methods in handling these large amounts of cash.
