The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation has welcomed the conviction of two Eastern Cape men for bank card cloning and fraud.
Between the period of June and November 2009, a card cloning syndicate was operating in the greater Port Elizabeth area.
Hawks’ investigations revealed that these fraudulent transactions in both dollars and rands amounted to the equivalent of R340 000.
The two accused, 39-year-old Siyabulela Cenga and 40-year-old Thobelani Jayiya were arrested by the Port Elizabeth Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in November 2009.
They were convicted in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and will be sentenced on the 6th of October.
