A large group of students from the ANC-aligned student body Sasco handed over a memorandum to management at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University on Wednesday.
This, as some of the Eastern Cape's Higher Education Institutions continue to grapple with the perennial problem of student accomodation and other issues at the start of the academic year.
On Tuesday, the DA-led SRC met Vice Chancellor, Professor Derek Swartz, following a sit-in on campus which they started on Sunday.
This meeting also followed several other engagements between the two parties to thrash out student related issues.
According to statement from the SRC, a campaign has also been launched to enable 3000 financially needy students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds realise their goals.
At the meeting on Tuesday, Swartz committed to helping them by providing free accommodation on campus, three meals daily and implementing an agreement that relate to certain payments.
The SRC had also committed to donating R100 000 from its budget towards the "Enabling Dreams" campaign.
NMMU will conduct an independent investigation into allegations of corruption that has marred the Student Housing Department.
Meanwhile, Management at Walter Sisulu University will continue to meet student representative after students brought the Buffalo City campus to a standstill on Tuesday.
University spokesperson, Yonela Tukwayo, said engagements took place on Tuesday and Wednesday to address concerns about accommodation.
"The management of the campus have set down with the student structures. We have gone through all of the issues that they had and those issues were addressed. We will have a meeting again with the SRC (Weds) and we will further thrash out new requests that are coming through. We have yet to see what is new in terms of student demands" she said.
Despite disruptions at these campuses, all four Universities in the province reported an increase in student enrolment figures this year.
